Since receiving the Special Consultative Status with the United Nations, African Trade Center has been accredited to participate and also organize parallel Side Events. African Trade Center has continued to use these very rare occasions to project, deepen and add value to Africa’s presence and participation at the United Nations. ATC has used its parallel Side Events to share Africa’s perspectives to global issues bothering around UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
These Events has brought together some of the most influential personalities from government, the private and non-profit sectors, and civil society to share innovative ideas on how to address Africa’s developmental challenges and achieve SDGs.
During the United Nations 62nd Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62), African Trade Center side event with the theme: Women Empowerment and Gender Equality: Issues and Challenges in Africa,
CSW63, the Side Event focused on Building Social Systems for the Protection of Women and Girls in Africa
And during the 2019 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPFSD) African Trade Center organized a Parallel Event focusing on: Diaspora Engagement in Sustainable Development in Africa. This attracted the participation of the Nigeria Consul General, to New York, President of the Borough of Manhattan, Senator of the City of New York, Diplomats, Senior Government officials, Heads of CSOs and many other highly distinguished guests.
ATC events are focused on addressing issues and goes to demonstrate our passion for sustainable social development that touch and impacts positively the life of every individual African citizen in the urban or rural communities.
ATC impacts at the United Nations have gained traction, with overwhelming outpouring of commendation. In the coming year and with the appointment of a Liaison/Permanent Representative for New York, ATC intends to sustain and indeed increase its activities and presence at the United Nations.
